"New-Method" No. 33

We introduce the email bulletin "New-Method" with our works and guest contributions.  This issue No. 33 features Hideki Nakazawa, an artist, ex-Methodicist and ex-New-Methodicist.  Hideki Nakazawa appears in this bulletin again, this time as a contributor since he left from New-Method a year and a half ago.

"Method" and "New-Method"
Hideki Nakazawa (Artist, Ex-Methodicist, Ex-New-Methodicist)

What question do the contemporary painting, poem, and music investigate?  Come and witness Methodicist and New-Methodicist art to see how artist Hideki Nakazawa advocated these to answer the question! ..... On that account, I decided to give a lecture series titled ["Method" and "New-Method"] at Rikkyo University in the first semester of this fiscal year.  The syllabus stipulates that the course is not for education and the enrollees are supposed to be the witnesses; because art is nothing other than avant-garde art, avant-garde as renovating values is incompatible with education as ensconcing itself within established values, and art is to be encountered in its immediate presence with everyone being a witness regardless of one's standpoint.

It is true, for instance, to "Methodicist Manifesto" distributed on January 1, 2000, via New Year's cards and emails.  Ex-Bikyoto Naoyoshi Hikosaka later revealed to me that it had puzzled him over whether or not he should make a prompt reaction.  In this case, subsequent stories or later evaluations do not matter.  The very moment it puzzled the recipients was an instance where art functioned actually.  Manet's "Lunch on the Grass" or Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," I believe, must have brought about such instances.

However, lectures on "Method" became reminiscences since its activity already ended on December 31, 2004.  A guest lecture with two ex-Methodicists resulted in joyful talk about old times.  On the other hand, the activity of "New-Method" is in the present continuous tense.  I entrusted the content of their guest lecture to the three present New-Methodicists, and they carried out "Surprise Test" all of a sudden.  That is, those attending the lecture had no other choice but to witness something.  The enrollees are assigned to submit "Lecture Witnessing Report" as documents to be openly published, which are available at the URL below:

Input and Output No.9

In "Input and Output No.9", the input that I'm "now" typing on the keyboard becomes its output without changes.  However, as I've written in the comment of "No.5", these series do not intend to represent the human body.  This work intends to distill the method of "No.8" further.

[Editor's Note]

The average mark of "Surprise Test" was unexpectedly high, 23 out of 34.  It seems that their propaganda has been so far so good.  (M)
